Hey everyone! We’re gonna be ripping through some more metal today here at Okzygen, so I hope you’re ready to rage with Revocation! This time we’re tackling the opening track from their self-titled release, The Hive, and I’ve gotta say I haven’t had this much struggle learning a tune since doing the Necrophagist cover a few months back. There’s so much going on with the hands in this song, and once that breakdown riff kicks in things get a little out of control. And that solo, god damn that solo took a few days to really nail down. Honestly things could be a little tighter in this cover, but time is short and I’m not doing another take of this song just to have to mix the track and edit 6 angles of videos into one cohesive thing in a single night. That’s not happening. I also will admit I made a slight error in judgment when picking the particular axe to use for this song, but I simply could not be bothered to change the tuning up on any of the other stringed things. They’ve all got locking tremolo systems on them, and if you’ve ever had the displeasure of having to change the tuning on one of those things, well, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
As a little side story, I remember seeing these guys open up for Children Of Bodom years ago, completely unaware they were part of the lineup until we got to the venue and actually saw the posters for the gig. I had known about them for a couple years at that point, having discovered their videos online and freaking out about that Jackson Warrior that David Davidson would wield. So when the band banner unravelled upon the stage and the group walked out, the Warrior in Davidsons hands ready to attack, well let’s just say that made an already fantastic show absolutely unbelievable.
We’re closing in on the end of the year, and I’m looking at the idea of taking a break for a few weeks in January before ramping things back up the following month. Might try my hand at the Record Production Month thing again this coming year so there may be some new original things rolling out of the studio soon, but it all hinges on how much I can get done during the aforementioned January break. I’m also gonna have to break down and do this stupid Hot Chip Challenge thing at some point too, just need to put together a few different songs to try and play through whilst burning my face off to the bone.
