Been a while since I’ve done a proper post on here. There’s been a number of reasons for that, which I’ll be getting to in short order. To start it off, this summer has been one of the busiest I’ve had in terms of music, whether it be solo, working with people in the studio or collaborating with some awesome and talented people I’m proud to call my friends. To start this post on a highlight, I had the amazing opportunity to perform alongside Oglob (Former partner in crime with Nopheros) at Solstice Festival! After camping in the woods for 4 or 5 days and experience what I can only explain as pure magic, we performed Sunday morning for a huge energetic crowd of friends, new and old. It was an experience that I can barely put into words, one that has to be experienced. And one that I will be experiencing again next year, so if you’re reading this and plan on going, drop a comment so we can meet up!
Now how about some new music? Released this track a few months ago under the Metachorica name. For those who don’t know, Metachorica is the moniker I use for electronic music. After a few years of silence, figured it was about time to make something new. I’m toying around with the idea of an EP in the near future, remixing the few tracks I have and bringing them up to a new standard.
Speaking of new releases, there are a slew of new guitar based tunes in the works towards something concrete in the next few months. Architects is still a ways off, but currently there’s about 5 or 6 new tracks ready for an EP. Taking things in a different approach compared to Disaster Inverted, infusing some more electronic elements into more contemporary song structures. Not as much of the slow burn feeling the last release had, but a more in-your-face, energetic vibe.
While I’m rambling about various EP’s, one that I’d been trying to find the right way of releasing has been the Epsilon project. With those songs being a very different, minimalist take on songs and composition, it’s been difficult to work in the proper amount of guitar work to be comfortable putting it out under the solo name. With that in mind, some songs are dependent on the instruments, creating a catch-22 kind of situation. The only way around it to me seems to be a split-personality kind of EP; two brands of the same artist. Or something like that. So expect some Demon Seeds stuff soon.
Or now for that matter. A week or so ago I quietly released this single ambient track from Demon Seeds. A year in the making, this was an experiment in creating emotion out of absence. An absence of concrete time for parts, absence of rhythm, absence of definition, etc. It was also a chance to get familiar with some new studio tools and ways of working with sounds. Expect more sonic experimentation like this sometime down the line.
Among all of that, there was also the Cobourg Busker Festival, which happened just a week before Solstice Festival! A cool little street festival which I got to busk during the day and play a live set. Got to experiment with some new methods of performing, playing drum patterns while looping bass and guitar to create a full improvised one-man band. There was video taken during the performances, which may or may not become available soon!
And speaking of video, talks are currently happening for a music video for one of the tracks that’ll be on Architects of Enigma. This projects a ways away so I don’t want to reveal too much, but I’m hoping to make a fitting homage to one of my favorite directors and the creator of my favorite genres of film. Also zombies.
This has been quite a wall of text, so I’m gonna leave it at that for now. I’m going to compile a bunch of media from all the recent doings and post them here sometime soon, just gotta get it all together. Until next time.
