Hey everyone! We’ve been doing lots of the metal stuff these last few weeks. And this week is no exception. In fact, we’re doubling down on the extremes and going full blown Cannibal Corpse with their tune Hammer Smashed Face! A song I’ve wanted to learn for ages but just never really got around to it. It’s one of those songs I don’t see myself ever playing live or even jamming with a group, so it just kinda sat at the back of my mind until this week. She’s a pretty brutal tune, lots of tremolo picking, chugging, spider chords, tempo variations, just a whole flurry of notes in a 4 minute span. The hardest part of it though was actually just remembering the order of the parts. It’s just brutal crushing riffage from start to end, so remember what parts go where was difficult at times.
As for the video itself, I debated briefly about doing a double guitar recording, but if you’re familiar with the song then you’ll know both guitars play pretty much the same parts the whole way through. Aside from one moment when one of the guitars is trilling a note on octave higher than the other guitar, the parts are freaking identical. So you get one take for this video, because let’s face it, that’s all it needs.
